Getting Ready for Cycle A and the Gospel New Year

In looking at the calendar I am reminded that the new liturgical year will soon be upon us. November 26-27 marks the first week of the Advent observance as well as the opening of the A Cycle of Sunday readings. The evangelist of the A Cycle Sunday Gospels is Matthew, and I made my selection this morning for the Gospel commentary I will read personally and incorporate into the regular Tuesday posts here on the Sunday Gospels.
 
My selection is The Gospel of Matthew by R.T. France (2007). This work is from the New International Commentary on the New Testament series, published by Eerdmans of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This text is well reviewed and thorough. The entire series of commentaries has been overseen by Dr. Joel Green, the author of the St. Luke text I have used this year.
 
The NICNT series represents the Evangelical Christian tradition of Biblical studies. My selection of Luke last year from the same publisher represented a bit of a move for me out of my comfort zone, into a more ecumenical biblical environment. Truth be told, the St. Luke text draws its material from many Christian sources, including Roman Catholic scholars.
 
This text runs to 1100 pages but it does include the text of the Gospel itself, and it is available through Amazon Prime. I recommend the hardcover edition as opposed to Kindle, since the book serves as a reference as well as a single narrative of the Gospel of Matthew.
